Vendée Globe 2020-2021

Today Friday, 5th March at 08.35.46 UTC, Ari Huusela on board STARK crossed the finish line of the 2020-21 Vendée Globe.

Our 4TFORTE sails on board with him and with Pip Hare Ocean Racing on MEDALLIA have spent a combined 212 days at sea, and sailed a total 57.099 nautical miles with ZERO FAILURES! Both skippers, actually, believe they could go around again with the same sails.

All the OneSails sailmakers worldwide (53 sail lofts in 41 countries) are happy and proud of this great achievement, and thank all the people whom, at any title, have been involved in making this adventure a huge success for OneSails and our 4T FORTE.

OneSails is proud to participate once again in the Vendée Globe, bringing a new generation of cutting-edge and sustainable sails to the race. Following the success of the 2020-2021 edition, OneSails is represented in this edition by Conrad Colman on MS Amlin and Arnaud Boissières on La Mie Caline, both equipped with the brand’s latest technologies. Colman, the New Zealand navigator, has chosen a full set of 4T Forte 525-R sails, designed to ensure high performance and minimal environmental impact, while Boissières, the French navigator, has opted for a FR0, an asymmetric fractional sail for downwind sailing built with the same technology.
Kuka 3, owned by Franco Niggeler, claimed a stunning victory at the 45th edition of the Middle Sea Race, securing both the ORC overall scoreboard and class win. This year’s race proved to be quite the challenge, with the fleet facing two brutal storms packing winds over 50 knots, interspersed with stretches of frustrating calm. A key factor in their success was the brand new full inventory of 4T FORTE Sails, which powered them through both the fierce gales and the windless lulls. On board, they had experienced OneSails sailors, including Samuele Nicoletti and Sandro Montefusco, whose expertise played a crucial role in managing the changing conditions.
After 17 intense trials and a point-to-point battle, Sagola SailingTeam - the Farr 45 of Fornich-Battistoni-Sorrentino, helmed by Peppe Fornich - won the overall victory in the championship, taking the coveted trophy! The competition, which involved about 500 boats, began in April and ended in late September with this incredible feat. We would like to give special applause to the entire crew for their determination and commitment. And a big recognition to our Paolo Giumarra of Onesails Sicily for his contribution in the team!
We could not have chosen a better moment than the Genoa Boat Show to announce the new partnership between Slam and OneSails! A decisive meeting between Marco Perazzo, SLAM's Worldwide B2B & Trade Director, and Dede De Luca, CEO of OneSails, marks the beginning of a project oriented towards innovation and sustainability through material excellence This collaboration brings together two icons of Made in Italy : SLAM, technical supplier for the Defender Emirates Team New Zealand in the America's Cup, and OneSails, a leader in the creation of lightweight and sustainable sails thanks to their unique membrane technology. SLAM and OneSails together for a new route in the nautical world, guided by passion, tradition and respect for the sea.
The Sugar Sailing Team reconfirmed themselves as champions in the waters of Mariehamn, Åland, defending their title with determination in a tight championship until the last race. Here is the comment of Simone Ferrarese, tactician on board: "It was a close race until the end. The boat was always fast, making the tactics easier. With two non-discardable offshore races, the risk was high and in the last one we had some difficulties, so the last day was crucial. The guys did a great job and we managed to finish successfully. We are really happy to end the year like this and we are looking forward to next season." Italia 9.98/EST Sugar is equipped with a full set of Onesails sails with 4T FORTE™ technology for upwind sails. The innovative Onesails technology and the close collaboration between the team and Sandro Montefusco of Loft OneSails South Italy, has contributed to this sporting success. This year, the team chose to lengthen the bowsprit and increase the gennaker surface area (120 square metres instead of 110), improving performance for the entire inventory of downwind sails: AF0 girth 85%, A1, A2, A3
